An Early 1st Birthday!

Since Asher's birthday was so close, we decided to throw him and early birthday party while we were in Utah over Thanksgiving. In an effort to come up with some sort of theme, my mom asked my Aunt Janet what kinds of cake pans she had that we could possibly borrow. She mentioned that she had one in the shape of a horseshoe so we decided to use that and decorate it with Woody and some of the Toy Story characters. My mom made a delicious yellow cake with chocolate buttercream frosting and I made some fondant stars to put around the horseshoe. My mom tracked down the Toy Story figurines and TA-DA, a horseshoe/toy story themed cake. Prior to decorating it Riley mentioned that it looked more like a toilet seat than a horseshoe to which I promptly replied with a punch to his face! Ha, ha, just kidding, I just punched his arm. Luckily, he did think it looked liked a horseshoe after it was decorated ;)

All of the great-grandparents, grandparents, aunts and uncles were there to celebrate Asher's 1st birthday. He wasn't too interested in opening presents but he definitely enjoyed the cake part. It was so funny when we put the huge slice of cake in front of him he didn't really know what to do but he quickly figured it out and ate almost all of it! He even ate an entire fondant star, YUCK!

Toys and Santa

Asher had his first visit with Santa during our visit at Thanksgiving. Heather took us out to lunch at a really cute little pizza/pasta restaurant that she designed down in the Riverwoods Mall in Provo. After lunch we walked over to the toy store where there happened to be several life sized stuffed dogs throughout the store. Asher got so excited each time he saw one and went right up to pet them thinking they were actual dogs. It was so cute!! One of the dogs he knocked over in the process of trying to give it a hug :) After exploring the toy store we walked outside and saw a line to visit Santa so we decided to wait. Asher was definitely unsure about the whole Santa thing but he was very good to sit on his knee for a picture. He didn't want mommy to go very far though!

We recently discovered that this is his "I do not like this" signal. He does it

anytime he is wary of a person or situation. It makes me laugh :)

Thanksgiving 2010

Last year we weren't able to make it back to Utah for Thanksgiving due to the fact that I was about ready to pop with Asher in my belly. Luckily this year we were able to make the long 10+ hour trek to visit our families for the holiday. This was Asher's first Thanksgiving and I was certain it would soon become one of his favorites considering how much he loves to eat :) We were lucky enough to have two Thanksgiving dinners, first around lunch time at my parents house and then again at dinner time at Riley's parents. The food was plentiful and Asher did seem to enjoy himself on both occasions, however, I think he liked throwing the food on the floor better than actually eating it. He has unfortunately learned that the dogs will quickly eat anything he drops/throws to them. At my parents house, he was being very silly and throwing himself back in his chair and then giggling. At the Cutler's he loved playing with the toys with grandma and grandpa.

Disneyland 2010

Wow, so it has been a really long time since I've updated the blog but never fear, I will be posting a plethora updates beginning with our family vacation to DISNEYLAND!!! As you may know, I LOVE love LoVe Disneyland and look for any opportunity to visit. Well, my sister, Heather, mentioned that she had been talking to my other sister Brooke about wanting to take a trip to the happiest place on earth. I was on board of course and the idea of a quick trip to Disneyland snowballed into a huge family vacation. HOORAY! We spent the weekend before Thanksgiving with all of my sisters and brother-in-laws, the parents, two cousins and their two adorable kids and Riley's little sister. It was quite the crowd! I'm sure Asher won't remember his first trip to Disneyland but I definitely will. I had so much fun watching his reaction to all of the people, characters, rides and just the overall magic of the place. He seemed to love watching all of the activity surrounding him and was super happy and cute the whole time. It was so much fun to spend the weekend with our family in Disneyland :) Thanks for a great family vacation Dad!

BOO!

Ah, I love Halloween and this year was especially fun since it was Asher's first! I don't know why but there is something so hilarious about dressing up a kid who has absolutely no clue what is going on as some cute and cuddly little animal or character. We decided to buck the typical trend of cute and fuzzy creatures, however, and went with something a little different for Asher's first Halloween. We were originally thinking along the lines of dressing him as a turtle but because we were invited to a Halloween theme party "Rich and Famous" we decided to come up with something that would fit the theme. I happened to be listening to the audiobook of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Riley and I decided that Asher would make a darn cute Harry Potter. So Asher was Harry, I decided on Professor McGonagall and Riley chose Hagrid :)

On Friday we went to the Halloween party at my work where Harry made his debut. I came down with a cold a couple days prior and took a sick day which ended up being essential to make Asher's wizarding robes as it took me a full day! Anyway, everyone at the party thought Asher's costume was adorable. Oh, we also gave him a wand which he LOVED to wave around (see video below :) There was a little haunted house at the party that we walked thru and Asher especially loved the room with papers scattered across the floor. He was not hesitant at all to walk thru the dark hallways!

Saturday, I spent the entire day sewing my costume since that night was our friends, the Frangel's, party. And it was awesome! Everyone brought appetizers and treats to share and we played a great game of Family Feud (boys v. girls of course). There were so many good costumes, Mario and Luigi, Lady GaGa was there, the Queen of England, Indiana Jones, Han Solo and Princess Leia, etc, etc. We had so much fun and Asher was happy to be up way past his bedtime :) It was a great Halloween!
